Hi, I’m Kayla Moorcroft and I made Understanding STEM to provide you with simple explanations for understanding STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
Learning in class or from a textbook isn’t always easy. It sure wasn’t when I was going through school. Simplifying the concepts helped a lot, though. Sometimes you just need another perspective in order to grasp something.
In 2020, during the pandemic, learning was made more difficult for students. This was when I decided to start this website. I thought why not share the way I learn with others? And also, the best way to learn something is to explain it in a simple way to others.
Understanding STEM isn’t just a website! There are videos, fun facts on Instagram and you can also ask questions for me to answer.
Let me know what you want to see by writing something on the questions page, sending me a message on Instagram or sending me an email:
Also, subscribe to the newsletter to get an overview of what’s new at understanding STEM each week. This includes links to all the weeks resources (videos and blogposts) and any other exciting news.
About me
I completed the IB diploma (International Baccalaureate) from 2020-2022 and was in an IB school for the entirety of high school (grade 9-12). This is what I base most of the notes and simple explanations on. You can still use these notes even if you are not in an IB school because math and science doesn’t change across different schools, the focus might just be a bit different. If there is something that the notes don’t cover, you can always request an explanation on something on the questions page.
During the IB diploma I did Math Analysis and Approaches HL (higher level), Physics HL, Chemistry SL (standard level). I took biology, chemistry, physics and math until grade 10 as well. Now, I’m continuing to pursue my math and science interest by studying engineering at university.
